Paola celebrates the 30th annual outdoor Roots Festival, Friday and Saturday August 23rd and 24th.
By tradition, this is held in the historic downtown Park Square. The Festival includes live music performances from regionally and nationally acclaimed bands, including The Weda Skirts from Emporia Kansas, the Nace Brothers from Warrensburg, Missouri, and Victor Wainwright and the Train from Savannah Georgia.
Roots Festival is held in conjunction with this is the 21st annual East Central Kansas State BBQ Championship on Friday. Up to 65 teams compete.
Festivities also include food vendors, arts and crafts vendors, and games for kids.
For 30 years the Roots Festival has resonated live music concerts under the open sky in historic Paola downtown. Nowadays, approximately 6,000 people gather along the Square for this annual tradition.
This is an outdoor, bring your lawn chair and cooler event. Alcoholic beverages are allowed for folks 21 and up.
Tickets are available at the gate. Admission is $15.00-Friday, and $20.00-Saturday. Free admission for kids 10 and younger.
Two-day passes for $25.00 are available at select local banks.
Parking is available along city streets, and in various city parking lots around the Park Square.
